This Old House (1979)
S16E24 The Napa Valley House - 6
Episode Overview
With impressive advancements at the construction site, we join Jim Nolan for a tour of the exterior, where we admire the fir decking, intricate trim details, classic redwood siding, and a synthetic stone facade on the foundation. Meanwhile, our master carpenter heads to a local factory that produces wine barrels crafted from American oak. Back at the site, our host checks out the installation of new semi-custom kitchen cabinets, featuring solid-oak white-stained fronts, mortised European hinges, full-extension dovetailed solid-wood drawers, and a two-part epoxy finish. The oak flooring has been laid down, showcasing quartersawn 5/16" x 2" strips with walnut inlays, and we catch up with floor expert Ron Spiteri to discuss the process. The next step involves adding mouldings and trim, where finish carpenter Jim DePriest skillfully tackles the casework around a door.
