This Old House (1979)
S18E02 The Nantucket House - 2
Episode Overview
The crew kicks off their day by surf casting with local pro David Goodman, who's also a tile contractor, and they manage to reel in a striped bass and a bluefish. Meanwhile, Jock Gifford and the Bentleys review a model of their new house design. Any changes to the exterior will need the approval of the island's Historic District Commission (HDC). We meet Mark Avery, the commission's head, who explains the group's guidelines and preferences. As Jock prepares a presentation for the HDC regarding proposed exterior modifications like dormers and decorative shingles, he takes us on a photo tour of the island. In the basement, Richard Trethewey discovers little plumbing or heating equipment worth salvaging and explores Nantucket's energy landscape, which includes everything from wind power to fuel oil, highlighting the high costs associated with each option as the Bentleys consider their choices.
