Our skilled master carpenter goes lobstering with contractor and lobsterman Pierre Garneau, who holds a family permit allowing him to set out 10 traps. Meanwhile, mason Dan Kissell removes the unnecessary and hazardous chimneys from the house, carefully preserving the old bricks that can sell for up to $2.50 each. Homeowner Kathy McGraw Bentley is tasked with cleaning off the old mortar from the bricks. Engineered lumber arrives just in time for reframing to commence both inside the house and on the platform left by the recently demolished kitchen ell. The masons share tips on mixing ideal mortar as they start building the concrete block foundation for the new addition. Inside, job foreman Patrick Hehir and the team work on installing a new engineered lumber beam into the second-floor system, while also sistering 2 x 8s to the existing 2 x 6 joists.
