This Old House (1979)
S23E05 The Manchester House - 5
Episode Overview
The foundation has been filled in, and the carpenters are hard at work constructing the forms for the new terrace. Inside, the space for the new kitchen and family room has been fully opened up, thanks to a hefty 3,800-pound steel and laminated lumber beam that Tommy and his team expertly installed through the side of the building. Kitchen designer Ted Goodnow collaborates with David and Janet McCue to plan the layout for their kitchen, pantry, and office. Ted takes David and Steve to check out a nearby kitchen his firm created for inspiration on design and materials. Meanwhile, Tommy and the master carpenter explore some historical details uncovered during demolition, including the building's original elements like the roof, a dormer, and a gabled sidewall. The vintage wood roof shingles play a crucial role as the master carpenter starts discussing roofing options with contractor Mark Mulloy and product representative Steve Miller, who presents a treated shingle option.
