S25E20 Restoring the Inn with Native Limestone - The Bermuda House
Episode Overview
Title: Restoring the Inn with Native Limestone - The Bermuda House In this episode, host Kevin O'Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram kick off their adventure at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, the tallest point in Bermuda. Back in St. George, Kevin collaborates with architect Colin Campbell to discuss plans for the renovation and expansion of Harbour View. Meanwhile, Norm visits Jonathan Cumberbatch, a fourth-generation quarryman in Smith's Parish, to learn about the process of quarrying native limestone for roofing tiles known as "slate." At the construction site, lead mason Dilton Cann demonstrates his techniques for repairing roof damage from hurricane Fabian. General contractor Alan Burland and foreman John Richardson provide Norm with an update: the previous kitchen and second-floor bathroom are gone, the cedar roof rafters have been reinforced, excavation for the new addition is complete, and window frames are being replaced.
