This Old House (1979)
S25E05 Electrifying the Little Cottage - The Concord Cottage
Episode Overview
Electrician Allen Gallant undertakes the task of installing PVC conduit two feet underground along the driveway to facilitate a 200-amp service connection to the cottage. Utilizing a “fishing system” with a mouse, string, pull rope, and vacuum, his team deftly pulls heavy electrical lines from the street over a distance of more than 200 feet. Meanwhile, architect Sarah Susanka presents Kevin with a stunning 3,000-square-foot home that exemplifies the design principles from her acclaimed book, "The Not So Big House." On the cottage's second floor, carpenter Jason Wood reinforces the existing rafters with new 2x8s and creates an opening for a new dormer, while Norm and Tom remove a section of the old roof, flooding the upstairs with light for the first time in nearly a century.
