S25E07 The Beauty and Challenges of Creating Small Living Spaces - The Concord Cottage

Nov 22, 2003 Season 25 Episode 7 Documentary, Reality

Episode Overview

Kevin explores the Concord Museum, renowned for its historic Americana collection, featuring a lantern from the night of Paul Revere's famous ride and artifacts connected to local figure Sam Staples, who constructed the project house. Meanwhile, Tom and master plumber Ron Coldwell update Kevin on the rough plumbing work, highlighting how the last-minute addition of a shower has impacted the first-floor powder room's design. Seeking more elegant small spaces, Kevin heads to Nantucket, Massachusetts, to visit homeowner Harvey Jones and his delightful North Wharf boathouse, along with two newly renovated guest cottages. Back at the cottage, Norm realizes the second-floor stairs are too steep for older residents, and headroom on the landing is insufficient. Tom proposes removing a step to lower the landing and reduce the rise, improving accessibility.
