This Old House (1979)
S28E03 East Boston | Design and Demolition
Episode Overview
In this episode, landscape contractor Roger Cook enlists homeowner Liz Bagley to help clear out the dead privet bushes from her yard. Architect Craig Buttner presents Liz with three innovative kitchen redesign options, with one featuring a significant layout overhaul that could improve traffic flow but may strain the budget. Master electrician Allen Gallant reveals to master carpenter Norm Abram that while the basement panel boxes have been modernized, much of the original knob and tube wiring still needs replacement. As demolition approaches, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey drains the heating systems and removes radiators for reuse. Meanwhile, environmental consultant Sam Covino identifies asbestos in the kitchen, necessitating professional removal. Despite this setback, general contractor Tom Silva demonstrates to Liz and her friends how to tackle the demolition of outdated cabinets, plumbing fixtures, and ceilings to prepare for the renovation.
