S29E04 Newton: Framing, Wiring, and an Unfitted Kitchen
Episode Overview
General contractor Tom Silva takes down the temporary support beam that has been propping up the rear corner of the house. Engineered lumber expert Craig Smith introduces master carpenter Norm Abram to eco-friendly framing materials intended for the revamped kitchen. Together with host Kevin O'Connor, they dismantle the old kitchen walls and install a new 16-foot beam to create a more open layout. Master electrician Allen Gallant uncovers dangerous wiring issues that have accumulated over the years, revealing multiple code violations. Meanwhile, kitchen showroom co-owner Yael Peleg shares her concept for an "unfitted kitchen," supported by designer Donna Venegas, who explains how this vision is reflected in the plans with homeowner Maddy Krauss. Back in Newton, Tom and Kevin work on reframing the floor structure beneath the master closet to ensure it is sturdy, level, and seamlessly integrated with the new master bath flooring.
