This Old House (1979)

S38E13 Arlington Arts & Crafts | Decorative Touches Make a Difference

Feb 04, 2017 Season 38 Episode 13 Documentary, Reality

Episode Overview

The exterior of the house boasts new decorative features, including a charming small roof detail held up by two brackets. Tommy constructs the roof on the ground, reinforcing the fascia for added strength. With the help of a lift, he positions the roof in place after securing the second bracket. Meanwhile, on the second floor, Emily and painter Rosemary Dewees introduce Kevin to the art of Lazure painting, a delicate watercolor technique for interior walls. As Kevin experiments with various brushes and buckets, he discovers it’s trickier than it appears. The homeowners seek master restorer Wayne Towle’s expertise to rejuvenate their worn oak veneer front door. Kevin visits Wayne’s workshop to learn the refinishing process. Back downstairs, Tommy installs solid oak paneling in a corner of the living room that was once occupied by a bookshelf, ensuring it complements the existing wood grain with a fresh white paint finish.
