Fran takes Gracie to Loehmann's Semi Annual Red Star Clearance, where she ends up in a fierce competition for a green sweater with another shopper. Meanwhile, Brighton struggles with his science grades, prompting Maxwell to threaten military school if they don't improve. Despite Maxwell's warning not to assist Brighton with his project, Fran decides to help. They attempt to incubate bird eggs using lights, but Fran accidentally leaves them on too long, resulting in hard-boiled eggs. When she seeks an extension from Brighton's teacher, she discovers it's the same woman from whom she snatched the green sweater.
