In 1875, fifteen years prior, Thomas Trafford comes to Wyoming's Chalk River to set up his cattle ranch, accompanied by his aide and accountant, David Melmont. However, things take a dark turn when Melmont gets entangled in a dreadful crime, setting off a chain of events that profoundly affects the lives of Eli and Cornelia.
