In the 1800s, sugar dominated the economy, creating vast fortunes for the owners of Jamaica's sugar plantations. There were 700 grand plantation houses, strategically positioned on elevated land to overlook the thousands of enslaved individuals laboring in the fields. During the 1831 slave uprising, 685 of these houses were destroyed, seen as despised emblems of a lavish lifestyle built on suffering. Among the few that survived is The Rose Hall Great House, a sprawling 6,000-acre estate that relied on 3,000 slaves. This stunning Georgian mansion, renowned as Jamaica's most famous great house, features exquisite woodwork and European antiques within its opulent interiors. Perched on a hillside, it boasts breathtaking views of Montego Bay. Constructed by John Palmer, the representative of King George III in St. James, between 1770 and 1780, Rose Hall is also infamous for the eerie legend of the White Witch of Rose Hall, filled with secret passage
