A seemingly foolproof case against a local gangster collapses, leaving DCI Hunt struggling with the reality of a guilty man evading justice. In his frustration, he turns to drinking, which quickly leads him into trouble. When it seems that Hunt may have taken someone's life, Sam finds himself in a difficult position, caught between helping Gene and dealing with his new superior—a DCI who embraces Sam's contemporary policing methods and jargon. Sam must navigate this tricky situation to support Hunt.
