Eli Gilmour, a recently divorced dad, reconnects with his children, Quinn, 13, and Josh, 11, after being absent for six months. Despite his fears about their acceptance of his girlfriend, Maxine, the kids struggle more with Eli's attempts to mask his feelings of inadequacy. Their reunion is rocky, but when their mother is unexpectedly hospitalized, Eli steps up for his kids. Meanwhile, estranged songwriting duo Fran Clark and Larry Matthews must work together to update their beloved musical for a revival. As they navigate their creative process, their relationship rekindles, leading them toward marriage again. Additionally, Mrs. Cabot, recovering from a back injury, misuses her pain medication, causing concern for Peter and Christine as her behavior spirals. After Peter tries to help, he faces dismissal for insubordination.
