Episode Overview
Dr. Michael Vaughn is embroiled in a custody dispute over Jodi Abbott, an 11-year-old girl whose deceased mother entrusted her care to him and his partner, Alex Halpern. However, Jodi's aunt and uncle, Nora and Cameron Wheeler, challenge this arrangement, fearing for her upbringing in a same-sex household. Although the judge initially grants custody to the Wheelers, a distraught Jodi runs away to Michael and Alex. At a meeting organized by Mrs. Cabot, Nora persuades Cameron to let Jodi stay with the couple. Meanwhile, Peter enlists Christine as his navigator for a road rally, but their inexperience leads them astray, resulting in a serious accident. Peter sustains a severe head injury, and as they spend a night in the wilderness, Dr. Kulwin later reveals that Peter has developed a blood clot requiring surgery. Just before the operation, Peter falls into a coma, leaving the hotel staff
