Episode Overview

Franklin Danforth, a businessman, finds himself preoccupied with Ward Matthews, a cunning private investigator who claims to have found Danforth's long-lost granddaughter, Karen, who vanished 16 years prior. Matthews seeks to claim a $100,000 reward but is initially dismissed by Danforth, who has faced numerous false claims over the years. Undeterred, Matthews coaches Karen on details to convince Danforth of her identity. Ultimately, she meets him and, having grown up in an orphanage, yearns to believe he is her grandfather. Despite discovering Matthews's deceit, Danforth chooses to embrace Karen as family. Meanwhile, Dave learns he has passed the bar exam, officially becoming a lawyer, while Peter and Christine take a break from their passionate relationship, allowing advertising executive Gary Marsh to use Christine as a model for a hotel promotion.
