Myrna Dawson, an editor at a travel magazine, finds her priceless heirloom emerald pin missing and threatens to write a damaging article about the hotel unless it is returned. In response, Billy enlists Phil Kroger, a renowned private investigator who specializes in jewel heists. During his investigation, Kroger spots Trevor Harris in the hotel's lobby and recognizes him as the elusive jewel thief. Christine, enchanted by Trevor's charm and considering a dinner invitation, decides to keep him close while Kroger devises a plan to incriminate him. Meanwhile, Ben Garfield and his young grandson Jason return from fishing in Yosemite, creating tension with Jason's mother, Susan, who disapproves of Ben's role in her son's life as she prepares for her upcoming wedding.
