Barbara Lyman, a refined socialite, believes her life is in jeopardy after witnessing a murder at a hotel that remains unproven to others. After enduring two more frightening encounters with the supposed murderer, she struggles to receive assistance from Billy or Inspector Chin. The real antagonist is revealed to be her husband, who frequently manifests as the villain in Barbara's anxious delusions. Meanwhile, Peter secures a performance from Joe Daniels, a once-popular country singer attempting to revitalize his career after battling alcoholism. Joe's son, Mark, grapples with his own drinking issues and is disheartened by his father's relapse. Joe's ex-wife, Lisa, informs him of Mark's struggles. On the opening night, Joe surprises everyone by being sober, reigniting hopes for family reconciliation.
