While returning home from an extensive business trip, Steve runs into an old friend on the plane. She proposes that her daughter stay with the Douglas family while she delivers a lecture in town. Unfortunately, everyone else in the household is tied up with their own commitments, leaving Steve to keep the girl entertained on his own.
