Episode Overview

While staying at Grandpa’s apartment due to Addy being unwell, he informs Nell that her mother has a date. Confused, Nell questions why that would be. When her mother arrives, Nell meets her date, Ernie, a figure from her mother’s past. Ernie, a former jazz musician, had taken Maybelle to a dance contest in their youth and had even invited her to tour with him, which she declined. Nell is stunned by this revelation. As Ernie waits outside, Nell curiously asks her mother if they were intimate, and Maybelle gently reminds her that she should understand such things and that she’s still growing up, just like any woman.
