As the new academic year kicks off, Dwayne is anxious about taking calculus with the formidable Col. Taylor, known as "Dr. War." He worries that Col. Taylor might reveal his academic achievements as mere luck, jeopardizing his engineering aspirations. In an effort to switch classes, he turns to Walter for help. Walter believes Dwayne would excel under Col. Taylor's guidance and persuades the professor to speak with him. Ultimately, Col. Taylor successfully convinces Dwayne to stay in his class. Meanwhile, Whitley meets her new roommate, Kim Reese, a determined freshman aspiring to be a doctor. Whitley tries to assert her dominance but finds Kim unyielding. Additionally, Jaleesa's upbeat freshman roommate, Freddie Brooks, develops a huge crush on Dwayne.
