Episode Overview

Whitley encounters Julian, a charming exchange student from Georgetown involved with Hillman's anti-apartheid movement. Kim is thrilled to learn she’s received a scholarship that will alleviate her financial burdens and provide lab experience, steering her away from working at the Pit. However, Freddie uncovers that the scholarship's funding comes from a company tied to investments in South Africa. Julian suggests a boycott, which frustrates Whitley since cutting ties would jeopardize Kim's scholarship. With her father’s health issues, Kim would need to juggle two jobs to continue her education. A South African student argues for the importance of these scholarships, believing that the achievements of African Americans inspire hope for those struggling in South Africa. Ultimately, Kim opts to decline the scholarship, while Whitley agrees to go on a date with Julian.
