Mason serves as the paymaster for a network of informants, but things aren't quite right: all the informants turn out to be just one individual. When Mason starts to catch on, he is killed by Wallace, who has been embezzling funds for himself. Steed steps in to uncover the truth, prompting Wallace to decide that his only recourse is to set Steed up for a crime and eliminate him.
