Episode Overview
A storm uproots a tree, revealing a skeleton, prompting Terri Morgan to investigate its identity. Linda Barton quickly emerges as the main suspect, yet she appears more focused on institutionalizing her elderly mother, Helen Thomas, than assisting the Mid-Warwickshire police in locating her long-absent ex-husband, Colin. As the investigation unfolds, it is revealed that Helen was once a victim of domestic abuse and had killed her husband when he fell ill. This revelation forces Linda to confront her mother’s painful past, as she learns that Helen buried her father after poisoning him. Fearing for her mother’s safety from prosecution, Linda tries to have Helen committed. However, DI Jackson shows a surprising empathy, believing Helen’s age should be considered before any legal action.
