Al Dangerfield, undeterred by her new role as a mother, still believes she knows what’s best, but her choices often lead to regret. When she encounters a young Serbian named Dejan being assaulted in Warwick, she rushes to his aid, sparking an intense romantic connection. Al dismisses any criticism about Dejan, especially from her father, yet soon discovers that he harbors deeper secrets. Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Dangerfield enlists DS Diamond to investigate Dejan’s background, raising questions about the man Al has taken in.
