Episode Overview
Stacey Grainger is being observed by two men as he purchases a train ticket to San Francisco, where he plans to meet the Virginian. He leaves his bag with the Station Master, Harry Harvey Sr., but when he returns to catch the train, the men intercept him. One of them, Sergeant Tom Beale, forces Stacey into an army uniform, gets him drunk, and takes him to Fort Killman, presenting him as Willard J. Thorne, a new recruit. However, Beale is caught off guard to find that his own discharge papers are still pending for two days. While Stacey is unconscious in the guardhouse, he meets fellow soldier Billy Martin. Meanwhile, Sergeant Joe Trapp and Captain MacDowell return from a mission, their mutual distrust evident as tensions rise.
