The Grimleys (1999)
Overview
Set in the mid-1970s, The Grimleys captures the essence of life on a council estate in Dudley, West Midlands. Premiering on ITV in 1999 after a pilot aired in 1997, the series ran for three seasons until 2001. Created by Jed Mercurio, a former doctor known for his acclaimed series Cardiac Arrest, the show combines humor and drama against a backdrop of societal change. While school scenes were filmed in Salford at various locations, the characters' homes were shot in Dudley, specifically around Parkes Hall Road, adding authenticity to its nostalgic portrayal.
