Jean receives high praise for her performance in "Macbeth," but Sicknote's direction faces harsh criticism, leaving him feeling downcast. At the station, Carole steps up as Station Officer. They welcome a new team member, an Australian named Chris Newman, who quickly earns the nickname Skippy. Nick heads off to a conference and encounters the stunning Dutch firefighter, Marianne. Meanwhile, Carole and Jack grow closer, but their moment is interrupted by an emergency call. As the fire truck gets stuck in traffic, Pearce takes the initiative and leads his crew into a tall building to investigate the smoke report. Upon their arrival, Carole scolds him, but the operation is chaotic, leading to another Station Officer reprimanding them both. It turns out the smoke was just from a barbecue on the roof.
