Maggie McKenzie longs for one last glimpse of the ocean, so John-Boy takes her on the trip, sacrificing his chance to attend a significant dance. Meanwhile, Grandpa steps in to assist the kids in rescuing a wounded bird. In a special cameo, Earl Hamner appears as Maggie's husband. This episode was directed by Harry Harris, who would go on to direct nearly 50 episodes and was even nominated for an Emmy for his work.
