Blanche is overjoyed when her daughter, Rebecca, an ex-model, comes to visit, though she notices that Rebecca has put on some extra pounds. Accompanying her is her clumsy boyfriend, who never misses an opportunity to criticize her weight. To Blanche's dismay, Rebecca is contemplating marrying this insensitive man, leaving Blanche concerned about her daughter's self-esteem and future happiness.
