World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys (2019)
S02E06 Finland
Episode Overview
Embark on a 600-mile adventure across one of the northernmost countries in the world, Finland, traveling from Helsinki in the south to Kemijärvi in Finnish Lapland. The train glides through dense forests and past expansive frozen lakes, some 63 times larger than Lake Windermere, making stops in towns where time has seemingly paused. Upon reaching the Arctic Circle, the journey stops at Rovaniemi, a town that was ravaged by German forces at the close of World War II. Today, Rovaniemi has been reconstructed in the shape of a reindeer and proudly serves as Santa Claus's official hometown.
