Driven from the jungle by the Hunter, Babar arrives in the City, only to discover it is equally perilous and bewildering. Isolated and without a mother, he finds a friend in the Old Lady, who endeavors to help him navigate her world. As part of his journey, she prepares him for a significant challenge: a society dinner held in his honor, where he must prove he can truly belong.
