Kate is excited about the arrival of an old high school friend, H.J. Grant, whom she once had a crush on. His recent letter suggests he has become quite affluent and is returning to the valley for personal matters. Uncle Joe, however, is suspicious and thinks Herbie may be a fraud looking to swindle Kate. Determined to sabotage any budding romance, he sets out to keep them apart. When Orville discovers a news article confirming Herbie's wealth, Joe shifts gears, hoping to push Kate into marriage. Yet, both Kate and Herbie prefer to stay friends.
