Betty Jo decides to leave baseball behind to focus on her passion for science, revealing her crush on her new science teacher, Roland Barrett. When Dog brings home a sizable animal bone, Betty Jo eagerly presents it to Roland, who is intrigued and wants to trace its origin. As Dog continues to dig up more bones, Roland speculates they might belong to a brontosaurus. The family becomes convinced that the remains are hidden beneath the hotel, much to Kate's dismay as they start excavating the lobby. Meanwhile, Clarence McGill, the curator from the Pixley museum, visits, revealing that he caught Dog pilfering bones from a baby brontosaurus exhibit.
