Episode Overview
Business at the Shady Rest is struggling, prompting Uncle Joe to discuss with Sam the idea of hosting a fishing derby at Lost Lake in collaboration with Drucker's Store. Joe proposes enticing prizes like a boat, an outboard motor, and fishing equipment, all on a 30-day layaway plan. Confident that either he or Sam will catch the largest fish, they plan to return the prizes before the payment is due. Kate is unaware of their scheme when she agrees to the event. The derby attracts customers to both the hotel and the store, but it also brings Rod Granger from the Riverside Chronicle, who proves to be a formidable competitor. Just as it seems Granger will triumph, Joe surprises everyone with an even larger catch.
