After losing his job, Rob chooses to relocate to San Francisco with Katie and the triplets to take a new position at a different company. They settle into a new apartment and encounter several neighbors. One of these tenants comments that Rob seems constantly exhausted from the weight of providing for his family. This remark, along with others, leaves Katie feeling discouraged and leads her to believe that Rob no longer wants her and the boys.
