Feeling overlooked by his family, Chip makes the drastic choice to run away, believing it would be a kindness to them. Early the next morning, he sets his sights on a journey to far-off India. However, while wandering downtown, he becomes frightened and ultimately decides to head back home, where he conceals himself in the attic. In his haste, he forgets the farewell note he attached to Tramp's collar.
