Steve Douglas returns to his hometown of Bedford Springs with his family, hoping to reconnect with his former fiancée, Ellen, who still resides there and is now married. However, he finds himself disappointed by the transformation she has undergone. While she remains attractive, she is now married to a bothersome husband and has unruly children, leaving Steve feeling disillusioned by the changes in their lives.
