As the fourth season kicks off, Malcolm, whose chaotic home life feels like a zoo, heads out with his family to an actual zoo. They experience up-close interactions with a variety of animals. However, Hal would prefer to avoid running into Lois's old flame, who is now giving a talk on rain-forest wildlife. Meanwhile, Reese finds himself in a standoff with a goat, and Malcolm and Dewey accidentally fall into a tiger enclosure. In a separate plotline, we catch up with Francis, who has unexpectedly become the foreman at a dude ranch run by an upbeat German owner.
