Episode Overview
Hope and Michael clash over her desire to return to work full-time and the idea of having another child. While exploring the Steadman basement, Hope, Melissa, and Gary stumble upon an old trunk filled with letters and photos belonging to former residents, Sally and Roy McCauley. Intrigued, Hope immerses herself in their story, imagining Sally's romance with Roy, who is deployed to the South Pacific during World War II. Later, she and Nancy discover Sally's journal, which reveals more about their life, including Roy's departure for war. That night, as Hope works in bed, Michael attempts to get intimate, but Hope, without her diaphragm, pulls back. The next day, Ellyn finds Hope in tears after reading about a telegram informing Sally that Roy is missing in action.
