Growing up on a farm in Texas, a young woman dedicated her early years to caring for her younger siblings. After leaving home, she found herself in a series of tumultuous marriages, and by 1990, she was seeking her third divorce. With one daughter independent and her son living with her second ex-husband, she faced a pivotal moment in her life. It was then that her third ex-husband persuaded her to return. Enduring abuse as a housewife, she eventually shot and injured her violent partner. Instead of receiving help, she was assaulted by the local sheriff, prompting her to file a civil lawsuit for justice.
