Episode Overview

After getting separated from Brown’s forces, Onion and fellow enslaved man Bob abandon the conflict in Kansas, only to encounter pro-slavery “red shirts” who take them to the slave-trading hub of Pikesville, Missouri. There, Onion meets Pie, a mixed-race prostitute at the local hotel, who takes him under her wing and teaches him about life, even after uncovering his perilous secret. As tensions rise, Onion becomes deeply involved in a growing slave uprising, where he comes to understand the heavy price of his choices.
