Episode Overview

Savage proposes a new strategy for the 918th, suggesting they bomb in unison on the lead bombardier's signal rather than having each bombardier target independently. Despite opposition from Generals Crowe and Pritchard, Savage is determined to implement the plan. His lead crew includes Bishop, Zimmerman, and Mellon, the latter having recently been recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross after completing a successful mission despite his best friend's severe injury, which ultimately led to his friend's death. Shaken by the loss, Mellon struggles with the next mission, resulting in the group mistakenly bombing a school. Doubting himself and unsure if it was equipment failure or his mistake, Mellon wishes to step back from his lead role. However, Savage encourages him to take charge again, and they manage to successfully hit their target.
