Episode Overview
During a shuttle mission to bomb Fredericksburg and land in Foggia, Italy, General Chandler commands the entire wing. Gallagher's aircraft comes under fire, resulting in the deaths of the Bombardier, Navigator, and Ball Turret Gunner, while General Chandler and the Radioman sustain injuries. Another gunner perishes while attempting to bail out. They manage to crash-land at Sabina Island Control, where Major Glenn Luke, a medical officer, and Staff Sergeant Conklin, the only enlisted personnel, provide assistance. The base also houses four German prisoners. On the ground, Chandler, Komansky, Pargon, and the Radioman are rescued by Major Luke, but Gallagher and waist gunner Sergeant Shadrack Ellis are still missing. Meanwhile, German fighter pilot Hauptmann Holtke is shot down and infiltrates the camp, killing Ellis, Pargon, and Conklin. Holtke then takes Chandler hostage and seizes control of the base.
