In "Hearts and Minds (2)," Despero's minions launch an aggressive assault, leaving John with no choice but to resort to a firearm as his ring is rendered ineffective by Despero's psychic manipulation. Meanwhile, John, Katma, and Hawkgirl find themselves in captivity. In a race against time, J'onn, Kilowog, and Flash work together to extinguish the enchanted flames and strip Despero of his formidable abilities.
