In 1992, the charismatic Millat, at 17, is a street-savvy teen who captures the admiration of Irie, Archie's daughter. Irie, in turn, is the object of affection for the socially awkward Josh Malfen. When the trio is discovered with a joint at school, they are sentenced to study sessions with Josh's quirky parents, the controversial geneticists Marcus and Joyce. Millat quickly wins over Joyce and moves in with them after being kicked out by Samad. However, both Joyce and Irie are devastated when Millat leaves to join an Islamic sect. Meanwhile, Samad is shocked to find that his son Magid has embraced British culture, securing a spot at Oxford with the help of a mysterious benefactor bringing him back home.
