Maritime archaeologists and historians embark on a quest to uncover the vital element of the Atlantic Slave Trade: the slave ship. This fortified vessel, which functioned for more than four hundred years, was responsible for the capture and transportation of over 12 million Africans, who were sold into harsh labor in the New World. By exploring the shipwreck, they expose the brutal technologies employed on board, gain a deeper understanding of the appalling conditions endured by the captives, and identify a wreck off the coast of Alabama that may be the last slave ship to have brought Africans to American shores.
