The team travels to the historic city of York for an exciting live excavation. Among their discoveries are a Roman skeleton clad in hobnailed boots and a Viking leather shoe. They are joined by a variety of experts, including site supervisor Barney Sloane, Peter Addyman from the York Archaeological Trust, archaeologist Paul Thompson, and osteoarchaeologist Margaret Cox. Architectural historian Beryl Lott, finds specialist Lindsay Allason-Jones, glass expert Denise Allen, Viking historian Patrick Ottaway, and TV host Sandi Toksvig also participate. The group constructs a brick kiln to create a Roman-style glass jug, while environmental archaeologist Andrew Jones analyzes organic remains to uncover the locals' diet. Medical historian Carole Rawcliffe shares insights into medieval herbal remedies.
