Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993)
S01E18 Electricity
Episode Overview
Join Bill Nye as he illuminates the fascinating world of electricity. Though it may seem enigmatic, understanding the underlying science brings clarity. When you flip a switch, the lights illuminate; pressing play on your stereo triggers a musical experience. This all happens due to the movement of electrons—tiny charged particles found in atoms, the fundamental building blocks of everything. We can generate electron flow in two main ways. Batteries create electricity through chemical reactions that direct electrons from the battery to the device and back. Alternatively, power plants utilize generators that spin wires in magnets, producing electricity for our homes.
